New York Educrats Submit Smaller Budget

The New York Post reports:
New York educrats apparently got the message and submitted a much leaner second bid for federal education aid yesterday -- giving up the designer chairs, desks and bookcases that would have made their workdays easier to endure.

Chagrined state officials whittled their application down by more than $130 million -- including $8.2 million for supplies, some so extravagant they made the feds see red.

Other trims include $10 million in personnel costs they had included in the first-round application.

The cost cuts, combined with major educational reforms, are expected to bolster the state's chances of collecting a significant share of federal money.

Great moments in rent seeking.
