Expenses get union leaders in trouble: State chapter fails to account for $540,000

The San Diego Union Tribune reports:
The international union representing 1.6 million nurses, prison guards and other government workers has sidelined leaders of a California local for failing to account for more than $500,000 in credit card expenses and other deficiencies.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2620, a statewide chapter, was placed into “administratorship” late last month after the improper record-keeping was brought to the attention of union officials in Washington, D.C.

Typical of the questionable spending was more than $5,000 in union dues spent at San Diego-area hotels and restaurants — bills that were paid despite there being no receipts or explanation of the union business or purpose, according to documents obtained by The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Great moments in the union movement.
