Chicago Police commander used 'black box' to shock suspects, witness says

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
A former defense attorney said this morning she often asked ex-Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge about the device suspects said he used to shock them and said Burge once assured her the alleged torture mechanism “left no marks.”

“I would ask, ‘Are you bringing out the black box today?’ or ‘Where’s the black box?’ He would say, ‘What are you talking about, Watson?’ Or ‘There’s no box today,’ ” said Casandra Watson, now an administrative judge.

But one day during their exchanges at Area 2 police headquarters in the 1980s, Burge made a startling admission, Watson said.

“He told me, ‘The box leaves no marks,’ ” she said.

In 1982, Watson represented Melvin Jones, a Burge accuser who said the lieutenant shocked various parts of his body, hit him with a stapler and pointed a gun to his head while questioning him about a murder.
Great moments in the "progressive", one party town of Chicago! Do you think gun control is a good idea when only police officers can own guns in Chicago? We know Mayor Daley thinks so. Yet, there's more corrupt cops in Chicago than John Burge. If the Chicago Mob's long term plant on the police force can rise to Chief of Detectives: how is Chicago any different than a banana republic?
