Former Suburban Chicago Public Officials Charged With Corruption

Fox Chicago reports:
Four suburban men have been arrested and charged with felonies for stealing money while holding public office.

On Tuesday, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announced the launch of “Operation Cookie Jar” an effort to weed out local corruption. She went on to outline the charges against each man.

Donald Jacobs, 62, was the part-time treasurer for Posen, Ill. He is accused of stealing $266,000 from the Posen Park District. Jacobs issued checks to a company called “D & D Services,” a company the city never did business with. Ironically, Jacobs and his wife were the only people who had access to the company’s account.

Robert Baldwin, 67, reportedly racked up $10, 400 in personal expenses on a credit card intended for special education in Niles Township. The former director of fiscal service for special education spent the money on rental cars, airline tickets personal computers, and cell phone bills, Alvarez reported.
The sleaze in Cook County.
