Chicago aldermen OK hiring their own inspector general : People would have to go public with their complaints about council members

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
The City Council agreed today to hire its own inspector general, with the power to investigate aldermen and their employees, but only after sworn complaints are signed and the city’s Board of Ethics approves.

The ordinance was approved by a vote of 28-to-17 after 11th-hour negotiations aimed at appeasing Michael Shakman, the original plaintiff in the long-running case that bears his name, broke down.
No word from Alderman Burke's friends on this one.
