Even with the economy showing some sparks of growth, the 1.6 million college students nationwide tossing graduation caps this season are entering a particularly difficult job market. Across the country last month, the unemployment rate was 9.9 percent; and in California, 12.6 percent. By some estimates, there are more than five job seekers for every open position.
"I was looking for a full-time job here, but I didn't hear from the places I applied to," said UC Davis senior Jackie Hong. "So I started thinking, 'What are the other options I have?' "
