Boston Wants All Nonprofits to Pay Taxes

The Boston Herald reports:
In a dramatic switch from the past, a city task force is set to recommend that all of the Hub’s nonprofits contribute to a fund in lieu of real estate taxes, not just hospitals and universities.

Stephen Kidder, chairman of Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s Payment-in-Lieu-of-Taxes, or PILOT, Program Task Force, said he will send a letter to the city’s cultural institutions and private schools asking them to commence contributions.

“The principles should apply to all not-for-profits and that includes museums,” said Kidder.
This is story that will play out in other cities. You can count on that.
