In a dramatic switch from the past, a city task force is set to recommend that all of the Hub’s nonprofits contribute to a fund in lieu of real estate taxes, not just hospitals and universities. This is story that will play out in other cities. You can count on that.
Stephen Kidder, chairman of Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s Payment-in-Lieu-of-Taxes, or PILOT, Program Task Force, said he will send a letter to the city’s cultural institutions and private schools asking them to commence contributions.
“The principles should apply to all not-for-profits and that includes museums,” said Kidder.
