In early January, you'll recall, he foreswore any interest in the job, a statement I interpreted as applying only to running against Mayor Richard M. Daley. But if Mr. Daley retires, according to an upcoming magazine piece in the New York Times, Mr. Emanuel "of course" is interested. Here's the New York Times article.
Says the piece, "With House speaker now off the table, Mr. Emanuel would like to lead his hometown, and openly communicates that."
You read that here first. The real question is what Mr. Daley does about the election, which is scheduled for February.
