Mike Stefani, the attorney for three cops in a perjury-tainted police whistleblower trial, engaged in professional misconduct by directly obtaining text messages implicating then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his aide Christine Beatty instead of having the messages sent to the trial judge, a legal disciplinary panel concluded today.
The three-member panel of the state’s Attorney Discipline Board cleared Stefani, a former cop and FBI agent, of two other misconduct charges: that he should have reported Kilpatrick’s perjury and that he improperly concealed the perjury.
