Miami-Dade 'green police' chief gets boot over spending

The Miami Herald reports:
The Miami-Dade police official who directed a highly controversial environmental crime fund has been stripped of control over the pot of public money amid disclosures it bankrolled items having nothing to do with the environment.

Division Chief Frank Vecin was relieved of supervision of the Community and Intergovernmental Affairs Bureau, the office in charge of the Florida Environmental Task Force Trust Fund.

The change is effective immediately, according to a memo from newly appointed Miami-Dade Police Director James Loftus. The memo, dated March 1, says the bureau now reports to J.D. Patterson, assistant director of support services.

The move comes as both the Miami-Dade inspector general and county police continue investigations into a fund created to combat polluters, and amid Miami Herald reports exposing questionable purchases from a green fund that has spent more than $5 million in the last decade.
What a scam.
