Former City Inspector General David Hoffman conceded to State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias in the race for Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate from Illinois.
Giannoulias was holding a narrow lead over Hoffman. With three-quarters of the precincts around the state counted, Giannoulias is showing 39 percent of the vote. Hoffman is close behind with 34 percent of the vote. And Urban League President Cheryle Jackson has 20 percent of the vote.
On the Republican side, Rep. Mark Kirk glided to victory. With 75 percent of precincts reporting, Kirk had 58 percent of the vote in a field of six candidates.
