The Detroit Free Press reports:
Gov. Jennifer Granholm's last hurrah inside the state Capitol was paired with an alternative event -- a State of the Citizen demonstration -- outside, where a chilly group of about 400, mostly Tea Party activists wished her not-so-well in retirement.
There's more:
Paul Babcock, a 44-year-old truck driver, drove to the event from Roseville with his 12-year-old daughter, Belle. Babcock said he was tired of politicians who don't worry about where the money is coming from.
"Socialism never worked anywhere," Babcock said. "We're not willing to hand over more and more. I don't really care about the poor. I'm pretty sure I am one of them."
The anti-tax crowd was leavened by a group of 30-40 pro-education protesters there to demand restoration of K-12 schools spending. They appeared to disperse midway through the speeches.
Some people don't like Michigan's status quo.
