The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Scott Lee Cohen might have startled some by winning the Democratic Party primary race for lieutenant governor -- but probably not voters on the North and Northwest sides of Chicago and in broad swaths of suburbia and Downstate, who gave him his margin of victory.
Cohen, a pawnbroker, did well in those areas after getting the support of well-known politicians, including three Chicago aldermen: Richard Mell (33rd), Bernard Stone (50th) and Roberto Maldonado (26th).
Cohen's victory, of course, apparently was all for naught. After insisting last week that he plans to be on the Democratic ticket come November, Cohen said Sunday night he is dropping out of the race. His announcement came in the wake of shocking new details emerging last week about his divorce case and 2005 domestic violence arrest.
