With $5B Budget Gap, Bloomberg to Ax 4,000 City Jobs

NBC New York reports:

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will call for the elimination of 4,286 City employees from the payroll tomorrow when he unveils his budget plan.

Of the more than 4,000 jobs being eliminated, 934 of those employees would be laid off. The rest of the positions would remain unfilled after being vacated.

City Hall sources say they do not intend to layoff any workers at the uniform agencies -- among the thew NYPD, FDNY, DSNY and Corrections -- however they did not guarantee that no jobs would, in the end, be eliminated at these agencies.
