Chicago Alderman Burke's Motives Challenged By Attorney of Ohio Company

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Chicago is re-examining a rule that prohibits private ambulance services from transporting dead bodies in hopes that competition for the grisly service could reduce the nation’s highest transport fees, a top mayoral aide said today.

Earlier this year, Ohio-based GSSP Enterprises Inc. agreed to slash its prices by 25 percent — from $915-a-body to $690 — under pressure from the City Council’s most powerful alderman.
Anthony Cicero who's an attorney for GSSP is questioning the motives of Alderman Burke:
“I would be curious to see who’s the moving force behind whatever she’s is doing. It’s my understanding she’s met with Ed Burke about this. This is a continuation of what you saw at the hearings,” he said.

Earlier this year, Cicero hinted strongly — without offering proof — that Burke has ulterior motives for crusading against the company.

On Thursday, he charged that the alderman has received campaign contributions from ambulance companies. Burke could not be reached for comment.
The world of Alderman Burke.
