Flashback to the March 4, 1983 hearing on Organized Crime in Chicago by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Former FBI special agent William Roemer spoke about organized crime and Chicago politics, in Chicago's old First Ward (page 53, sorry no link):
As the years went by, we continued in the FBI to develop information indicating to us that Pat Marcy continued to call the shots, which his superiors in the mob commanded, and that he continued to be the conduit through which the orders of the leadership of the outfit passed to those politicians and public officials who were under their control. Informants continue to advise through the years that D' Arco and the current alderman of the first ward, Fred Roti, are the front men for Marcy, and, therefore, for the mob.
Were Mayor Daley or Alderman Burke bothered by highly respected FBI agent's comments about Alderman Roti? Not at all. In 1989, Mayor Daley campaigned for the office of the Mayor of the city of Chicago with
Alderman Roti. In 1999, Alderman Burke introduced a resolution which Burke voted on and passed in Chicago's City Council calling
Alderman Roti:
a committed public servant, a cherished friend of many and good neighbor to all, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his many family members, friends and associates
A question from all this: have Mayor Daley and Alderman Burke ever been associates of organized crime?
