Alderman Burke's Brother Faces 1st foe in 19 yrs for lawmaker

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
An activist with one of Chicago's best-known Hispanic names, Rudy Lozano Jr. will test whether Southwest Side voters are ready to replace longtime incumbent State Rep. Dan Burke of the 23rd Legislative District.

It has been 26 years since Lozano's father, a community activist and union organizer, was killed in his home. Lozano's family has been politically active ever since.

It has been 19 years since Burke was elected. He likewise comes from a politically active family. His father, Joe, was an alderman, and his brother, Edward, still holds the seat. Dan Burke said "this is the first time in 19 years" he ever has had an opponent.
Democratic party competition.
