Union Bosses Plead Guilty to Shakedowns

Two former executive board members of Local 1181 of the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiring to extort money for decades from owners of school bus companies. Local 1181, which represents 15,000 bus drivers and workers, was controlled by the Genovese crime family "from at least the 1980s through 2006," federal prosecutors said.
