Rough year for grads

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
College graduates from the Class of 2009 not only have had a harder time finding a job, but they took a hit to their starting pay. Those who've had success in landing jobs this recessionary year can thank their choice of major.

Graduates with degrees in accounting, computer science, information systems and engineering have had more success in landing jobs this year, and with higher salaries, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers and Chicago area university career placement staff.

Just 20 percent of 2009 graduates who applied for a job landed one by graduation day, compared with 26 percent of 2008 graduates and 51 percent of 2007 graduates, according to another association survey.
