The Chicago Sun-Times reports on the leader of the greatest jewelry theft ring in U.S. history:
He's one of the most crooked cops in Chicago history. William Hanhardt helped run a ring of mobbed-up jewel thieves -- while he was chief of detectives of the Chicago Police Department.

It's now seven years since the onetime deputy superintendent of police admitted he'd stalked and stolen more than $5 million from traveling jewelry salesmen and became the highest-ranking Chicago cop ever convicted of corruption.
