Motorists in Michigan with as few as three outstanding parking tickets could soon find themselves unable to renew their driver's licenses.
In an effort to give cash-strapped cities an infusion of additional cash, lawmakers are considering changes to state law that would give judges greater authority to compel drivers to pay old tickets. Currently, judges in traffic court can flag any case in which drivers have six or more outstanding tickets.
On Thursday, the House Transportation Committee began considering a bill to cut that number in half. The full committee will likely take up the issue again next week.
