Kansas City Mayor wins suit against city on rule that kept his wife away from City Hall

The Kansas City Start reports:
Mayor Mark Funkhouser won a victory over his council colleagues Friday when a judge ruled unconstitutional part of an ordinance barring his wife from regularly volunteering in his office.

Funkhouser said he was grateful for Jackson County Circuit Judge Justine Del Muro’s ruling, which he said protects the authority of the mayor’s office.

But he refused to discuss when or if his wife, Gloria Squitiro, might be returning to Kansas City’s City Hall.

“I’m not ready to talk about it yet,” Funkhouser said in a brief meeting with reporters outside City Hall. He added that he was still digesting the decision and “looking forward to moving on with the business of the city.”
We commend Kansas City for trying to keep relatives out of city hall. Unlike Chicago.
