Board of Education President Michael Scott, who recently re-upped in that job and has to be wondering why, did indeed testify before a federal grand jury. He reportedly didn't name any names, but it is clear that the applications of certain students were forwarded to the principals of selective-enrollment high schools, who have some discretion in handing out a few highly competitive slots. No word yet from Arne Duncan on this one.
Was there any pressure on principals, direct or indirect? That's not clear. But the politicians who are said to have pushed for a kid or two are very, very, very powerful folks.
The feds reportedly also are talking to a former aide to ex-schools CEO Arne Duncan, now the U.S. secretary of education.
