Feds Onto Something in Chicago School Clout Probe

Crain's Chicago Business reports on the growing scandal in Chicago:
Board of Education President Michael Scott, who recently re-upped in that job and has to be wondering why, did indeed testify before a federal grand jury. He reportedly didn't name any names, but it is clear that the applications of certain students were forwarded to the principals of selective-enrollment high schools, who have some discretion in handing out a few highly competitive slots.

Was there any pressure on principals, direct or indirect? That's not clear. But the politicians who are said to have pushed for a kid or two are very, very, very powerful folks.

The feds reportedly also are talking to a former aide to ex-schools CEO Arne Duncan, now the U.S. secretary of education.
No word yet from Arne Duncan on this one.
