The housing bubble's aftermath and a deflated job market are landing more Americans in bankruptcy court.
Nationally, consumer bankruptcy filings rose 34 percent in July 2009 compared with the same period a year ago. Last month, 126,434 Americans filed an application to discharge their debt. That's the highest monthly total since bankruptcy reform was implemented in October 2005, according to data from the National Bankruptcy Research Center provided to the American Bankruptcy Institute .
