The University of Illinois has paid about $440,000 to a number of law firms to represent the university in matters related to admissions abuses uncovered this summer, records show.
The bulk of the costs, about $392,000, went to Latham & Watkins for work done through June 30 to comply with the Admissions Review Commission, the state panel that investigated the university's admissions irregularities following Tribune reports.
