Colleges use software programs to catch cheaters

The Oakland Tribune reports:
downtown Oakland-based iParadigms has developed a program to scan students' papers, asserting that it is "recognized as the worldwide standard for preventing Internet plagiarism." The company's Web-based program, TurnItIn.com, is designed to identify papers containing unoriginal material.

This battle over cheating and how to prevent it has been fought in classrooms, academic senates, legislatures and courtrooms.
