Is Mayor Daley Afraid Of Powerful Alderman Burke?

Mark Brown of The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
During one 16-month stretch between 1996 and 1998, the mayor proposed three different rounds of ethics reforms aimed primarily at news reports on the transgressions of Ald. Edward Burke, the City Council finance chairman.

But the mayor balked at helping remove Burke from the powerful finance post. That led to a memorable retort when reporters questioned whether Daley feared retaliation from Burke, who is well-known for knowing where all the bodies are buried at City Hall: "What's he going to expose -- himself? I hope not. He can expose anything he wants."
