Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan said Craigslist is getting rid of "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that Web site employees will review.Big Brother is watching you!
Existing ads on Craigslist will expire in seven days, a spokeswoman for Madigan's office said. Craigslist stopped accepting new erotic services ads as of 1 a.m. CDT.
This morning's action follows pressure from an increasing number of state officials. In addition, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart filed a lawsuit against Craigslist earlier this year, calling it the "largest single source of prostitution in America." He called a press conference for 11:45 a.m. to discuss his suit.
Pressure to remove the category ramped up this spring when a Boston medical student was charged with killing a masseuse authorities allege he met through Craigslist.
