Cook County Commissioner John Daley seems conflicted. He has been assured by the state's attorney's office that there's nothing to prevent him from voting on contracts the Cook County Board gives to his insurance clients. Yet, rather than vote "yes" or "no," Daley prefers to vote "present" when the board gives a contract to one of his clients.For more on John Daley.
"There's a concern about appearance, the perception of it," Daley says. "We concluded we do not have any economic interest simply because we provide brokerage service ... I would just rather not be part of any of those votes."
