GOP rep says Fannie Mae exec got loan perks

The Hill reports:
Franklin Raines, the former chief executive of Fannie Mae, benefited from special perks given by the head of disgraced mortgage lender Countrywide Financial, the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said on Wednesday.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said documents received by his staff contradict testimony Raines gave to the committee in December, when he denied receiving any special benefits from Countrywide.

Issa is sending a letter on Wednesday to Raines's lawyer, Kevin Downey, saying that documents Raines provided on Jan. 29 indicate that he knew he was receiving benefits on a June 2003 loan as part of the "Friends of Angelo" program. Angelo Mozilo was the chief executive at Countrywide. The VIP program has ensnared several politicians, including Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, in controversy.
When you've made as much money from Fannie Mae and then you get a mortgage from Angelo: you have to wonder how greedy Franklin Raines is.
