Chicago Patronage on Trial Again: Top Daley Aide Faces the Feds in Court

The Chicago Tribune reports on Daley operative Al Sanchez:
Sanchez, the highest-ranking mayoral aide indicted in the federal corruption probe of City Hall hiring, is scheduled to go on trial Tuesday on charges he routinely accepted personal favors, cash and gifts as he led the Latino patronage army.
There's more:
For more than a decade, Sanchez was a leading figure in what prosecutors allege was a pervasive scheme to corrupt city hiring. He and others close to him doled out jobs and promotions in return for campaign work, according to the charges.

One of the charges against Sanchez involves Denise Alcantar, an HDO[Hispanic Democratic Organization] worker who landed on the city payroll as a garbage truck driver despite her inexperience. She later severely injured a co-worker she pinned against a telephone pole with the truck. Authorities subpoenaed Alcantar in 2006 after the Tribune detailed the accident and her political ties.
Patronage can kill you in Chicago, but voters seem not to care.
