Chicago Cop Pleads guilty to insurance scheme

The Chicago Tribune reports:
A Chicago police officer pleaded guilty in federal court today to one count of mail fraud for taking part in an insurance scam.

Joseph Grillo, 46, was a 14-year veteran working burglaries in the Grand-Central District when he was arrested last year as part of an FBI probe into a tow-truck driver James "Meatball" Athans, who was bribing police officers to obtain work at accident scenes.

Grillo admitted he arranged to make it appear that another officer's personal car had been stolen so the officer could fraudulently collect on auto insurance.
No word yet on whether Mayor Daley will mention the "few bad apples" theory.
