Chicago Clings to Corruption Under Federal Monitor

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
In Chicago politics, there are moments so priceless, no one could make them up.

In federal court this week, the former commissioner of Streets and Sanitation, Al Sanchez, is on trial for rigging the city hiring system to award city jobs and promotions to political workers for the mayor.

At the same time, a federal monitor just submitted a report suggesting the city still lets clout influence hiring -- including at Streets and San. That's right, the guy who ran Streets and Sanitation is on trial for illegal hiring, while the department allegedly continues illegal hiring.

One of those illegal hires under Sanchez? A female truck driver who crushed a co-worker against a pole -- one of five work accidents she has been involved in.

We could say city officials don't get it. But they get it just fine.
You'll want to read the whole thing. No word yet from Alderman Burke on this one.
