Crain's Chicago Business reports:
Another Chicagoan is headed to Washington, D.C., this time to head the U.S. Department of Education.
President-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday will name Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan his education secretary, Obama transition team officials confirmed.
The official announcement will come at CPS’s West Side Dodge Renaissance Academy.
Mr. Duncan’s name had been rumored for many weeks, but he had told associates he preferred to stay in Chicago unless Mr. Obama really wanted him to go. That apparently has occurred.
Arne Duncan is another Chicago Machine operative of Mayor Daley's.Look at these recent numbers from
The Chicago Tribune:
The Chicago Public Schools lost more than 45,000 students in the last five years, according to the state report card, and a city school spokeswoman said they've seen no "significant reversal of the downward trend."
Maybe,Chicago voters can't vote Mayor Daley and Arne Duncan out of office, but some people sure have voted with their vote.
Few places can say they've lost over 10% of their public school population in 5 years! For more on
Chicago's decline.Maybe, Arne Duncan can explain why Chicago has high taxes to fund
147 half empty schools!
Maybe,Obama can explain why Arne Duncan's school system wasn't good enough for his kids but Arne Duncan is good enough to be Secretary of Education?
