Houston Area Created 52,300 Jobs in the Last 12 Months

The Houston Chronicle reports:
The Houston area could lose about 46,000 jobs over the next 12 months as the national recession — coupled with a sudden slump in the all-important energy markets — takes root locally, the Greater Houston Partnership said in its latest economic forecast.

The report, which assumes credit markets will thaw enough to support normal business lending by mid-2009, predicts job losses will be spread broadly across Houston.

A cut of that magnitude would wipe out most of the 52,300 Houston-area jobs created in the 12 months ending in October 2008, the latest local figures available.
