The Call For Government Funded Newspapers

Eric Alterman reports:

in its current situation, the newspaper business cannot save itself. If we are to save newspapers, we have to decide to do so as a society. My preference would be for universities and large foundations to step into the breach. But barring that, I would be OK with a solution in which government funds were made available for journalism, with strict rules preventing it from influencing its content.
