Rezko's Operation Board Games Next Phase Monday: Powerful Fomer Chicago Alderman Ed Vrdolyak in Court Monday

CBS Radio Chicago reports:
A status hearing is scheduled for Monday in federal court for a man who was once of the most powerful politicians in Chicago.

Longtime alderman and former City Council President Ed Vrdolyak is charged with mail fraud, wire fraud and bribery. He's accused of partaking in a kickback scheme involving the sale of a Gold Coast neighborhood building.

When prosecutors announced the charges in 2007 they said the alleged scheme was intended to defraud a north suburban medical school of money and property and of the services of Stuart Levine, who served on the medical school’s board of trustees.

From 1971 to 1987, Vrdolyak was the City Council alderman from Chicago’s 10th Ward on the Far South Side. He served as President of the City Council from 1977 to 1983.
