Chicago Alderman Ed Burke to Create Taxpayers Public Enemies List:Chicago Sun-Times Reports

Michael Sneed of The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Sneed hears Aldermen Ed Burke (14th) and Leslie Hairston (5th) plan to take a page out of a 1920s Chicago history book.

• • To wit: Watch for the aldermen to propose a City Council resolution creating a Taxpayers Public Enemies list, which includes Wall Street execs and companies targeted in recent congressional hearings.

• • Translation: Word is they want to replicate a strategy adopted by the late Frank Loesch, the former chairman of the Chicago Crime Commission who created a public enemies list targeting gangsters preying on Chicago in the 1920s.

• • Getting the ax? The aldermen will also demand that the city sever any relationships with these individuals and their firms, including insurance giant AIG, whose execs authorized a $400,000 spa outing after receiving federal bailout money.

• • The upshot: The city's insurance is handled by AIG or its affiliates including all the major liability policies for O'Hare and Midway airports. The city reportedly pays more than $50 million in premiums annually.
