The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
As his sentencing nears, pressure is mounting on Tony Rezko to cooperate with federal investigations into some of the highest-profile politicians in the state -- including Gov. Blagojevich.
Two more trials -- one in Chicago next spring, one in Las Vegas -- hover over the Wilmette businessman and onetime prolific political fund-raiser for the governor and Barack Obama.
Now, sources tell the Chicago Sun-Times that Rezko has been seen at the federal courthouse as many as a dozen times since his June conviction. He's been held since then at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.
Rezko hasn't had to be back in court since a jury convicted him of corruption charges involving state deals. And his scheduled Sept. 3 sentencing was recently pushed back to Oct. 28.
Remember, the Feds want information on Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and Barack Obama. As the
Chicago Tribune reports:
Two months before he was convicted of federal corruption charges, political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko told his trial judge that "overzealous" prosecutors were pressuring him to tell them about any wrongdoing involving Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama or Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
But in a two-page typed letter, Rezko said he was never involved in any wrongdoing with either of the Democrats and wouldn't make up stories about them in an attempt to benefit himself.
Rezko's letter, which U.S. Dictrict Judge Amy St. Eve placed into his case file Wednesday, raised questions about whether federal prosecutors were probing allegations of wrongdoing involving Obama at a time in which the first-term Illinois senator was actively campaigning for the nomination against Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.
There's a possibility Obama could be indicted and the guy is running for President. How many Democrats have thought of that?
