2 Campaign Workers Charged With Voter Fraud Tied to Democratic Party Chairman of Lake County,IL

The Chicago Tribune reports:
Two campaign workers for state Sen. Terry Link (D- Waukegan) were indicted Wednesday on forgery and perjury charges for allegedly placing phony signatures on the senator's nominating petitions for his current re-election campaign.

Prosecutors announced the Lake County grand jury indictment of Jerry D. Knight, 40, and Kenneth Davidson, 50, who allegedly included the names of deceased voters on the senator's petitions.

The grand jury in Waukegan indicted Knight on 11 counts of perjury and one count of forgery. Davidson faces nine counts of perjury and two counts of forgery. The perjury and forgery counts are felonies, prosecutors said.

State's Atty. Michael Waller, a Republican, requested the appointment of a special state prosecutor to handle the case to avoid the appearance of bias against the Democratic campaign workers.
