City lawyers will argue that the Supreme Court decision applies only to federal jurisdictions like D.C and not to states and cities. Their reasoning goes back a couple hundred years. They'll argue the bill of rights, which includes the right to bear arms, was meant as a restriction on the immense power of the federal government, not local governments. Therefore, they say the city can still restrict gun ownership.No word yet on whether Chicago's Corporation Counsel thinks the 1st Amendment applies to Chicago.
