Spitzer's Fall: Roger Stone Talks to Jeffrey Toobin

The New York Post reports:
REPUBLICAN dirty tricks specialist Roger Stone is spilling new details of how he learned of Eliot Spitzer's passion for hookers and reported the love gov to the FBI four months before he was forced to resign.

In this week's New Yorker, Stone gives writer Jeffrey Toobin the blow-by-blow of how he got wind of the scandal in Miami swingers club Miami Velvet, where towel-wearing patrons get it on with their dates or new acquaintances.

Last September, Stone says, he eyed a hot blonde sipping a vodka cocktail there: "I told her I was a dentist. She told me she was a call girl but she wasn't working that night.

"She told me she had a very high-end clientele - she kept using the word 'high-end' - athletes, international businessmen, politicians . . . then she said, 'I almost had a date with Eliot Spitzer, the governor of New Jersey.' She didn't know much about politics. So I asked her, 'Did this guy have a beard?' [like whiskered Jon Corzine]."

She said, no, he was a skinny, bald guy, Stone tells Toobin. She added that Spitzer had reached her through her escort service that listed her as a brunette. But since she'd recently gone blonde, the agency referred Spitzer to a dark-haired colleague who hooked up with him in Miami.

Stone also tells how he learned of Spitzer's now-infamous habit of wearing hosiery during sex. "I asked her what her friend said about Spitzer," Stone tells Toobin. "She told me he was nice enough, but the only odd thing was that he kept his socks on. They were the kind that went to the middle of the calf and one of them kept falling down."

Two months later, Stone told the FBI Spitzer had hired a Florida prostitute. Whether that started the probe leading to Spitzer's fall, or merely contributed to it, is murky. "There's a lot of crazy stuff around the edges of this case. Stone is one part," a member of Spitzer's camp told Toobin.
