The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Rep. Jan Schakowsky has made what appears to be the most explicit pitch yet to be appointed senator if Barack Obama is elected president.
Such an appointment would be at least seven months away and would be made by Gov.
"I would be. I certainly would be interested in that. I think it is unseemly and untimely right now to do much beyond stating my interest in that," Schakowsky said Friday in a taping of WMAQ-Channel 5's "City Desk."
Jan Schakosky wants to bring her special magic of decline to the entire state of Illinois.
The Chicago Tribune reports:
Forgive Reps. Rahm Emanuel or Jan Schakowsky if they seem a little lonely these days: The Chicago-area Democrats are watching their constituents move away at a quick clip.
Data from Polidata and the Almanac of American Politics show Schakowsky’s district lost more than 50,000 residents – or nearly 8 percent of its population – from 2000 to 2005. That’s the third-fastest-shrinking district in the country. Emanuel’s is the eighth-fastest shrinking – down 33,000 people, or about 5 percent.
