Blagojevich: Weekend Shootings Show Need For Tighter Gun Control

WBBM Radio reports:
Governor Rod Blagojevich says this weekend's violence in Chicago is yet another reason for state lawmakers to enact new gun controls.

Speaking to reporters after the ground-breaking for a new downtown children's hospital, the governor said the General Assembly needs to pass the proposals.

They would expand background checks to private gun sales, limit sales to one gun a month per person, ban assault weapons and require storage for guns in homes with children.

Blagojevich says while the legislation would "not solve the problem overnight, limiting access to guns is a big part of the challenges we face and the lawmakers need to do something about it."
It's hard to see how disarming Illinois residents is going to prevent violence.
