Chicago Police Union blames stress for overweight Chicago cops

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Body-building Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis has touched a nerve the size of a layer cake with his demand that overweight Chicago Police officers get in shape.

One day after Weis talked about mandatory physical fitness tests and maximum body fat standards, the Fraternal Order of Police urged the new superintendent to address the underlying problems that cause some veteran cops to put on extra pounds.

"If you want guys to work out, let them park the car and go work out, like I'm sure he does. . . . Give us time during an eight-hour shift. That way, we'll be sure to get it in," said Greg Bella, the FOP's third vice president.

"When they come on the job, everybody's in shape. But people eat because of stress. How much stress is put on these guys because they're working six days a week? If they're so concerned about our health and they know stress triggers a fat problem, why do they deny us time off?"
It's not clear why those who don't have stressful jobs,in Chicago, are large and lovely.
