The ringleader of a group of South Side police officers convicted of shaking down drug dealers was sentenced today to 25 years in prison.Gun control works in Chicago!
Broderick Jones had pleaded for mercy before being sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman, saying he was a father and a Navy veteran who served in Desert Storm.
Guzman could have given Jones life imprisonment, but he said 25 years was long enough to deter other police officers who might be tempted by greed.
Jones and four other officers convicted in the probe committed a "shameless perversion" of the power afforded street cops, the judge said.
"You and your merry band essentially raped and plundered entire areas," Guzman said.
