Obama's Chicago to Have America's Highest Salest Tax at 9.25% Starting April 1

Crain's Chicago Business reports:
Chicago’s sales tax rate on general merchandise will jump to 9.25% on April 1 to provide additional money for the Regional Transportation Authority, which oversees mass transit throughout the Chicago area.

The increase of 0.25 of a percentage point is part of an RTA levy for all of Cook County that the organization’s board approved on Monday. Sales tax in DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties will jump half a percentage point, also on April 1.
