The Chicago Tribune reports on Comrade Obama's call for youth to serve the state:
Obama said he would expand the size of the AmeriCorps public service program from its current 75,000 positions to 250,000 slots; double the Peace Corps program that Kennedy founded from its current 7,800 volunteer positions to 16,000 positions by 2011; and create a national online network, modeled on Craigslist, to connect volunteers to service opportunities.Comrade Obama gets religious.I get some people on the Left don't mind religion in the public square.
He also said he would set a goal of encouraging high school and middle school students to perform at least 50 hours of community service per year. And he proposed a tax credit to pay up to $4,000 of college expenses for students willing to commit to 100 hours of community service a year.
"Make no mistake: our destiny as Americans is tied up with one another," Obama said. "It is time to recapture that sense of a common purpose: I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper."
