Former Illinois Governor goes to prison : 73-year-old begins sentence at Wisconsin facility

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Disgraced yet defiant, George Ryan on Wednesday began his "new journey."

Now the former Illinois secretary of state and governor holds an ignominious title: inmate number 16627-424.

Ryan, 73, today starts his first full day as a federal prisoner in Oxford, Wis., stripped of family and the comforts of his Kankakee home. He is to serve a 6½-year sentence for racketeering and fraud.
Illinois sure has rather low standards when it comes to picking politicians.
