The new dynamic was on display at the Palmer House Hilton on Sept.6-7, as 39 mostly qualified and some pretty well-clouted lawyers sought to be slated for 12 judgeships before 80 Democratic ward and township committeemen who -- more than anyone else -- decide who becomes a judge in Cook County.
More often than not, the committeemen's picks win the Democratic primary. The general election is a non-issue, as no Republican has beaten a Democrat in a countywide race for judge in decades.
